public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Corvallis, Oregon, U.S. It is a comprehensive research university with land-, sea-, and space-grant status and awards undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The university comprises a graduate school, an honours college, an interdisciplinary studies program, and colleges of forestry, oceanic and atmospheric sciences, pharmacy, agricultural sciences, business, engineering, health and human performance, home economics and education, science, veterinary medicine, and liberal arts. The Cascades Campus at Bend opened in 2001. The university's Hatfield Marine Science Center is at Yaquina Bay in Newport. Other research facilities include the Integrated Plant Protection Center, the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory, the Marine/Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center, the Environmental Health Sciences Center, and the Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology. Oregon State operates extension service centres in each county throughout the state. Total enrollment exceeds 16,000.
